Firstly I will visit you at the property to familiarize myself with the garden, talk through your ideas and aspirations for the space and try to determine the look and feel that you would like to achieve.
I often ask clients to save pictures of things that inspire them whether it is a piece of art or a holiday photo. As an indication of taste and style preferences this can be a great starting point from which to create a theme or concept.
My job is to grow your ideas, suggest things you may not have thought of and using my expertise and design experience, come up with a plan that will help create the garden you desire.
Following the meeting I will send you a letter outlining what we have discussed and give you a breakdown of the costs involved in producing Concept Sketches, Master and Planting Plans.
If you decide you would like to proceed then the next step is a Site Survey.
At this stage the garden is measured, the aspect determined, levels noted and sometimes soil samples taken.. On the survey we can list all the trees, shrubs and plants to be kept in the new design as well as any existing features that will remain.
If the garden is large and complex it may be necessary to employ a professional surveyor, which I can organize for you.
Using the survey, any photographic references and our discussions, I will produce a sketch drawn to scale outlining the proposed concept for the garden along with ideas about the features it may contain, planting themes and possible materials to be used.
I will also produce a mood board detailing the key elements.
The concept sketch is a working drawing that can be modified and changed until everyone is happy and the desired result is achieved. Major changes may incur an additional fee based on an hourly rate.
This stage does not include construction drawings but these can be done at a later date if necessary.
Once everything has been discussed and agreed I will draw up a Master Plan of the final design.
If appropriate I can also produce construction drawings of any key features.
These are detailed drawings of what plants to select and where to plant them.
Prices for these plans will vary depending on the size of planting area and the type of planting to be used, for example an herbaceous border takes longer to design than a large area of simple ground cover plants. These are charged at an hourly rate.
Alternatively I can suggest plants that might work well in the scheme and coupled with your preferences we can compile a planting palette for you to work to.
The planting plan is as much about including plants that you love as it is about using plants that compliment the overall design.
I can undertake as many or as few of the services listed above, depending on your requirements.
Once you have taken ownership of the design and are ready to build it I can be there in an advisory capacity, I can project manage your preferred landscaper or I can work with my recommended landscaper to implement the design.
I can also recommend electricians who specialize in exterior lighting and companies that can supply trees and mature plants etc.
All these services can be supplied at an hourly rate and I am always at the end of the phone or email should you need to discuss something.
